A note about the winning entry:
All the short stories were wonderful, and it was hard to select a winner. Ultimately, I chose Claire Miller's Promise Book story because she raises a moral dilemma many of us face in school: how and why we choose our friends. Claire also turns the table on us, suggesting that Matthew, with the newfound ability to control Julia, is the bully. The story concludes with Julia considering retaliation, but we are left wondering what will happen. Nicely done!
